The March into Spring Car Rally
Saturday 1 March 2025

This month’s car rally (February 2025) was held on Saturday the 1 March and was entitled ‘The March into Spring’.  It was organised by Blanca Ramos Gonzales and Marisa Ohm.  This was the second car rally in a row when rain was expected on the day but thankfully, as with last month’s rally, the rain stayed away.  It was a cold start for everyone, but the sun kept making an appearance during the day making it a pleasant day for a drive.

Again, this was a well-attended rally with 28 cars and 58 people registered for the event.  Many brought their classics along and some risked the weather by taking off their roofs!  Amongst the cars were a Ferrari 208 GTS, a Ghia 450 SS, a Lotus Elan S4, a TR 2 and a couple of TR 4s. We all met at Cal Dimoni restaurant in Algaida, and after a cup of coffee and a chat, we were given our route instructions and headed on our way.

The route was a long one, just over 90 kilometres, and it took in some spectacular views along some challenging roads.  We left Cal Dimoni and took the Ma-15E and then the Ma-3010 to the Ma-3011 picking up the Ma-3040 for Santa Eugenia and then onto the Ma-3020 passing through Santa Maria.  From there we took the Ma-2020 and headed towards Bunyola, picking up the Ma-2100 to Orient.

Once in Orient we stopped for a coffee break at Ca’n Tomeu, a typical restaurant café perched high in the hills.  The Ma-2100 is a beautiful stretch of road that is narrow and full of twists and turns, so concentration was key, but we were given some awe-inspiring views of the Mallorca hills and the surrounding countryside.

Once refreshed from the coffee stop, we continued on the Ma-2100 passing through Alaro, then on the Ma-2110 to Lloseta and onto the Ma-2113 towards Selva and Caimari.  At Caimari we took the Ma-2130 leading to Lluc and our destination, the restaurant Es Guix.  We were treated to a delicious three course meal with wine and soft drinks in a beautiful and picturesque setting.

Blanca and Marisa had asked several questions based on sights and features along the route.  The questions were easier than they had imagined, so much so, that twelve people answered all questions correctly.  We, therefore, had a tie breaker to settle the top three winners and bizarrely three people then had the correct answer to the tie breaker!  So, a further tie breaker was conducted to settle the ultimate winners.  So, in third place was William and Emma Morris and in second place was Roger and Bobbie Simpson and the overall winner was Raymond Walters.  Congratulations to all the winners.

Finally, a big thank you to Blanca and Marisa for organising an enjoyable car rally that gave us some spectacular sights along the route, which culminated in a great culinary experience at Es Guix restaurant.
