10th Anniversary of Russell Stevens' Passing

Thursday, 25 August 2025

On the evening of 25 August, from 7 PM, Port Adriano was abuzz with activity as car enthusiasts gathered to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the passing of Russell Stevens. The event, meticulously organised by Robert Klevenhagen and Gaston Westphal, was a fitting tribute to the memory of Russell, a revered petrolhead and the originator of the popular Thursday Meetup.

The invitation to the event was extended to all Classic Car Clubs and car enthusiasts on the island. They were encouraged to bring their special, distinctive cars along and join in the celebration of Russell's life.  It was fitting that over 90 cars attended the event, there to celebrate Russell’s life.

The celebration was a grand affair, with food and drink on offer provided by Kuko Crew Bar, Port Adriano. Attendees had the option to choose between two distinct menus. The 'Speed' menu featured three types of burgers, catering to those who preferred a quick bite. On the other hand, the 'Show' menu offered a more elaborate eating experience with a choice of starters and main courses of beef entrecote or roasted Norwegian salmon, ensuring that there was something for everyone.  A total of more than 140 meals were served on the evening.

The event was not just about food and drink; it was a celebration of Russell's life and his contributions to the car enthusiast community. Russell Stevens, who tragically passed away in a car accident on his way to a classic car event on the island, was remembered fondly by all who knew him. His legacy lives on through the Thursday Meetup, a tradition that continues to bring car lovers together.

The evening was a resounding success, with over 90 cars in attendance, showcasing a diverse range of classic and modern vehicles. The highlight was the traditional revving up of engines from the assembled cars.  The roar of more than 90 cars revving their engines was quite a spectacle.

The atmosphere was electric, with car enthusiasts mingling, sharing stories, and admiring each other's vehicles. The event also provided an opportunity for attendees to connect with like-minded individuals, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie. The well-organised event ensured that everything ran smoothly, from the food and drink service to the assembled cars on show. A big thank you to Robert Klevenhangen and Gaston Westphal for organising and staging such a memorable and spectacular evening.
