Almond Blossom Car Run
Saturday 31 January 2026

The Classic Car Club kicked off the year with its much-anticipated Almond Blossom Car Run, expertly organised by Stan Hunter and Pam Gardner. This year’s route showcased the scenic central and eastern regions of Mallorca, offering participants a memorable driving experience.

The day began under challenging weather conditions, with heavy rain and strong winds—a continuation of January’s unsettled weather. Despite the gloomy start, spirits remained high as members made their way to the meeting point near Algaida. The weather forecast though predicted the rain would disappear at around 11am, just in time for the start of the Car Run. Fortunately, the forecast proved accurate: by 11am, the skies cleared and the sun emerged, setting the perfect stage for the event.

This year’s Car Run saw an impressive turnout, with 33 cars and 63 participants, including several new members. The line-up featured a diverse array of vehicles, from Porsches and Mercedes to classic MGAs, MGBs, and even a 1950 Cadillac Convertible.

The group gathered for coffee at Cal Dimoni restaurant near Algaida, where route instructions were shared. At 11am, engines roared to life as members set off. The journey took them north to Sineu via the Ma 3130, passing through Pina and Loret de Vista Alegre, then further north to Santa Magdalida and onward towards Son Sierra de Marina. A highlight was the coffee break at Rancho Grande Park restaurant, notable for its fascinating wildlife. The route continued along the Ma-12 towards Arta, then south to Manacor, and then on the Ma-14, the Ma-4010 and finally the Ma-4012 to the finish at Val D’or restaurant.

Participants enjoyed beautiful scenery and smooth roads throughout the 85-kilometre run. The improved weather and accessible route made for a relaxed and enjoyable drive, where time seemed to fly by. There were also several instances where the almond blossom was in full bloom, especially during the latter parts of the route.

Upon arrival at Golf Val d’Or, everyone was warmly welcomed with drinks and treated to an outstanding three-course meal, with wine and soft drinks served throughout. The food and service were exceptional, making it one of the most memorable dining experiences on a Car Run to date.

Adding a fun twist, Stan Hunter encouraged drivers to ask each other about their favourite Mallorca restaurant, favourite town, and the dream car they would buy with unlimited funds. One car, driven by Willam Morris and Emma Gow, matched one of Stan’s own choices and won a bottle of champagne! This activity also provided valuable suggestions for future Car Run destinations.

The event included questions based on signs along the route, resulting in a seven-way tie for first place. The tie-breaker question—how much the 1955 Mercedes Benz Uhlenhaut Coupe sold for at auction in 2022—was answered exactly by Bernd and Sonja Heyer, who took first place. Lars and Alexandra Weigl and Lou and Nick Sutton followed closely behind in second and third place, respectively. Special recognition goes to Ivor and Wendy Macklin, whose answer sheet was unfortunately missed in the tie-break.

The 2026 Almond Blossom Car Run was a resounding success, featuring a strong turnout, a thoughtfully planned route with interesting stops, and the beautiful sights of Mallorca’s almond blossoms.

A big thanks to Stan Hunter and Pam Gardner for their efforts in organising such a memorable event.
